Be a guest in the place.
Give people and everyday routines their space. Ask before taking someone’s portrait and respect a refusal. At religious or heritage sites, follow the visitor guidance and any photography restrictions.
Put care into the small things.
Use bins or carry your waste out, stay on permitted routes and leave plants and archaeological material where you find them. Ask hosts what behaviour is expected rather than assuming every place works the same way.
Keep the human part of travel.
Learn a greeting, listen to the story behind a place and choose local businesses when they fit your plans. A journey can be memorable without treating someone else’s home as a backdrop.
